MinuteClinic Joins NC State Health Plan Network

MinuteClinic Serve Plan Members in More Than 70 NC Locations

(Raleigh, N.C.) – State Treasurer Dale R. Folwell, CPA, and the State Health Plan (Plan) announced today that MinuteClinic has signed a contract to join the North Carolina State Health Plan Network. MinuteClinic has more than 70 locations throughout the state.

MinuteClinic, located in CVS Pharmacy and Target stores, offers a broad range of services. Along with diagnosing and treating illnesses, injuries and skin conditions, MinuteClinic provides wellness services including vaccinations, physicals, screenings and monitoring for chronic conditions. Family nurse practitioners and physician assistants provide services for adults and children 18 months and over.

"MinuteClinic is a great partner for our new North Carolina State Health Plan Network," said Folwell. “Our members already use MinuteClinic for smoking cessation services. Now, our members statewide will be assured that these clinics are working with us to lower health costs, increase transparency in health pricing and contribute to the long-term financial stability of the State Health Plan."

The North Carolina State Health Plan Network is the result of the Clear Pricing Project (CPP) that was announced last year. Under CPP, the Plan will move away from a commercial-based payment model to a reference-based, transparent pricing model tied to Medicare rates. Health care providers will be reimbursed for their services at Medicare rates plus an average of 82 percent. Plan members will save over $50 million through reduced copays and deductibles, and lower costs for medical services.

Providers should visit https://www.bluecrossnc.com/provider-home for more information. Plan members can find more information regarding the Clear Pricing Project at www.shpnc.org.

CVS Caremark, the Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) business of CVS Health, is the Plan's PBM and administers the pharmacy benefit for Plan members. However, this does not mean members have to go to a CVS pharmacy for prescriptions.

CVS Caremark has a broad pharmacy network, which includes independently-owned community-based pharmacies and other large regional and national chains. The full list of participating network pharmacies can be accessed online at www.shpnc.org.

The State Health Plan, a division of the N.C. Department of State Treasurer, provides health care coverage to more than 727,000 teachers, current and former lawmakers, state university and community college personnel, active and retired state employees, and their dependents.
