If you have questions about your retirement benefits, make an If you have questions about your retirement benefits, make an appointment with one of our benefits counselors. It is helpful if you are within a year of your retirement, as that will allow us to give you the most accurate assessment of your retirement benefits. We also ask that you have generate a Custom Benefit Estimate in ORBIT​ to bring with you.

If you are unable to travel to Raleigh for an appointment, but would like more information about the retirement benefits provided to you, we also offer Retirement Planning Conferences in various locations across the state throughout the year. ​Don’t want to wait on hold for to get a form mailed to you, or hear your account balance? Did you know the Retirement System’s automated phone system gives members the opportunity to access ORBIT information 7 days a week, 24 hours a day?

After choosing whether you are an active or retired member and verifying some personal information, you can:​

  • Hear account balance and years of accrued service
  • Confirm receipt of documentation sent to the Retirement System
  • Hear monthly benefit amount
  • Find out monthly pay/mail date
  • Request one of the following forms be mailed to you:
    • Form 5, Withdrawing Your Retirement Service Credit and Contributions
    • Form 6, Claiming Your Retirement Benefit
    • Form 2C, Designating Beneficiary(ies)
    • Form 170, Authorizing Direct Deposit
    • Form 290, Choosing Income Tax Withholding Preferences
    • Form 333BEN, Designating Beneficiary(ies) for the Contributory Death Benefit for Retired Members
  • Request duplicate 1099R forms
