Denise Canada has been hired as the Director of the State and Local Government Finance Division and Secretary of the Local Government Commission, State Treasurer Brad Briner announced today.
“Denise’s unique background and deep understanding of issues facing both state and local governments will be invaluable as we serve the more than 1,100 units of local government in North Carolina,” said Treasurer Briner. “Denise is the right person to lead this division and I am excited for her to join the team.”
Canada most recently was the Director of Research and Fiscal Policy at the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners. Prior to that she was a principal fiscal analyst for the General Assembly’s Fiscal Research Division, focusing on local government tax policy. She also has served as a Wake County budget and management analyst, and as a fiscal analyst for the Baltimore County, Md., Auditor’s Office.
She earned a master’s degree in public policy studies from The Johns Hopkins University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond.
