ABLE Program Board of Trustees
ABLE Program Board of Trustees administers the North Carolina ABLE Program that was established under the Achieving a Better Life Experience Program Trust as per N.C. G.S. § 147-86.50.
The State Treasurer serves as Chair for the North Carolina ABLE Program Board of Trustees. In addition to the Treasurer, the Board consists of five other members: two members serve ex-officio: the Commissioner of Banks (or designee) and the Secretary of North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (or designee); one member appointed by the Governor who has experience in investments and finance; one person appointed by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Speaker of the House who has experience in advocacy for the disabled and one member appointed by the General Assembly upon recommendation of the President Pro Tempore of the Senate who is an immediate family member of an eligible individual or a guardian of eligible individual.
