Will Present Check to Komen Foundation in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

RALEIGH – State Treasurer Janet Cowell will be making an appearance at the NC Cash booth at the State Fair Tuesday to return a sizeable claim to the Susan G. Komen North Carolina Triangle to the Coast Affiliate. The event coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Treasurer Cowell will also be assisting state fairgoers in finding their share of more than $340 million in unclaimed property that may belong to them. During the fair’s opening weekend, over $100,000 has been claimed.

The Unclaimed Property Division of the N.C. Department of State Treasurer returned more than $50 million in unclaimed cash in 2012. Unclaimed property consists of bank accounts, wages, utility deposits, stocks, bonds and other property types that have been abandoned due to a loss of communication or oversight. North Carolinians can search for unclaimed property at
