Treasurer Cowell Supports Financial Literacy Funding Legislation
House Bill 775 will fund a Financial Literacy Pilot Program in Public Schools
Raleigh, N.C. -- State Treasurer Janet Cowell announced support today for a measure in the North Carolina House of Representatives funding a financial literacy pilot program in North Carolina public schools. House Bill 775, which was introduced by Representative Stephen Ross (R-Alamance) with bipartisan support, proposes $500,000 to fund financial literacy training for teachers and assessments for students receiving the instruction. April is recognized as Financial Literacy Month.
“We all understand the importance of financial education for the future of our state,” said Treasurer Cowell. “This legislation not only assesses the effectiveness of financial education in the classroom, it also provides funding for the critical player--the teacher. It's vital to the cause that we have educators confident in teaching the material.”
