Treasurer Cowell Commemorates NC Saves Week

As part of America Saves Week 2015, The Collaborative of NC is partnering with State Treasurer Janet Cowell to spread the savings message, and urge everyone to participate.  The Collaborative and Treasurer Cowell are also using the opportunity to encourage North Carolinians to set a savings goal by using the “Pledge to Save” form at: http://northcarolinasaves.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2. NC Saves week was proclaimed by Governor Pat McCrory for the week of February 22-27.

“Having a reserve of money is the surest way to prepare and protect yourself for financial storms,” Treasurer Cowell explained. “So whether it’s for college, retirement or an emergency savings fund -- it’s never too early or too soon to save.”

To help encourage more to save people  to save successfully , The Collaborative has partnered with the State Treasurer’s Office, The BankOn Wayne Campaign, and various nonprofit organizations across the state that promote economic security and financial stability in various ways.  Student organizations at both the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and North Carolina Central University are holding events this week to encourage their peers to pledge to save.

“More than 7,000 North Carolinians participate in the North Carolina Saves campaign and we invite everyone, from pre-school to retirement, to set a savings goal—if only a few dollars each week.  Saving helps individuals and families live securely and plan for their futures,” said Donna Gallagher, Executive Director of The Collaborative.

Pledging to save connects savers to a wide network and provides users with tools and resources to help successfully achieve a savings goal. Pledge to save form: http://northcarolinasaves.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2
