Treasurer Cowell Celebrates North Carolina Money Smart Week

Treasurer Janet Cowell reads a children's financial education book to students at ImaginOn in Charlotte, NCRaleigh, NC—North Carolina Treasurer Janet Cowell was on hand today for the kickoff of North Carolina Money Smart Week at the ImaginOn Library in Charlotte. During the week, North Carolina will join states across the nation to increase awareness around the important role of financial education in everyday life. Cowell read The Berenstain Bears’ Trouble with Money to a group of preschool children and their parents to encourage conversations with children about managing money.

“Throughout North Carolina Money Smart week, I'll join with others to equip individuals across our state with the knowledge and tools to make better financial decisions,” said Treasurer Cowell.  “It’s important that North Carolinians have access to financial services, and understand where they can turn for help or understanding.”

Cowell will visit several sites across the state, beginning with a stop in Charlotte. Many North Carolina organizations, banks, credit unions, and elected officials who provide financial education throughout the year will use the week to rally around this very important cause.

“Any work to increase financial literacy in North Carolina is work towards financial prosperity,” Cowell added.

Financial education advocates are encouraged to join in throughout the week by holding their own financial literacy workshops, lessons or events.
