Raleigh, N.C. -- State Treasurer Janet Cowell made this statement today following her Council of State vote in favor of selling the 308 acre Dorothea Dix property in Raleigh to the City of Raleigh for use as a park:
“I am excited that the vision of many people for Dix to become a central park for Raleigh and North Carolina is becoming a reality and am pleased to support this sale.

I represented the area on the Raleigh City Council and in the State Senate and have long advocated for this type of urban planning. Designating the proceeds of the sale for mental health is the right thing to do and strikes the right balance for our community and state.”
