State Treasurer General Counsel Honored as a North Carolina Leader of Law

RALEIGH, NC— The Department of State Treasurer announced that General Counsel and Senior Policy Advisor Jay Chaudhuri has been honored as one of the 2014 Leaders of Law by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly.

The distinction is presented in a partnership with Elon University School of Law to honor legal professionals who represent the most influential individuals within North Carolina’s legal community.

“Jay Chaudhuri exhibits a strategic and civically minded approach in his role as general counsel that is essential to our goal of a fiscally sound and prosperous North Carolina,” said State Treasurer Janet Cowell. “This honor reaffirms that Jay is at the forefront of legal thought in our state”     

In his capacity with the North Carolina Department of State Treasurer, Chaudhuri provides legal and policy advice related to the state pension fund, which has more than $90 billion in assets and is the 32nd largest public pension in the world.


ri joined the Department in 2009 and previously served as Special Counsel to the North Carolina Attorney General. Currently, he serves as the Board Chair of the Council of Institutional Investors, a national, nonpartisan association of pension funds and endowments.
