Orr Named to NC Supplemental Retirement Board of Trustees

Will help direct policies and procedures for NC 401(k), 457 and 403(b)

nc_retirement_robert_orr250.jpgRALEIGH, N.C.  – State Treasurer Janet Cowell announced today the appointment of Robert Orr of Chapel Hill as a member to the Supplemental Retirement Board of Trustees. Orr’s term will last through June of 2015.

Orr has more than 12 years of financial services experience, currently serving as principal in the investment company, Sandton Capital Partners, where he opened their North Carolina office in 2010 focusing on sourcing, underwriting, and managing new investment opportunities. Prior to that, Orr was part of the team that founded Square 1 Bank, a commercial bank headquartered in Durham, NC. At Square 1, Orr took on both business development and finance roles, taking the start-up to well more than $1 billion in assets.

Orr possesses an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In his role as member of the  Supplemental Retirement Board of Trustees, Orr is part of a nine-person board, with the Treasurer as Chair, tasked with directing policies and procedures for the NC Total Retirement Plans: NC 401(k), 457 and newly-adopted 403(b). The NC 401(k) and 457 combined have more than 292,000 active participants with more than $8.5 billion in assets. The NC 403(b) launched statewide in March.
