Retirement Monitor Update: Enrollments and Retirements
The summer is a very busy time for the Retirement Systems Division because of the annual summer spike in retirement applications. Human resources and benefits professionals can help our staff work more efficiently by ensuring enrollments and retirements are handled in a timely manner.
Notices of Enrollment (Form 2) should be mailed to our office within two weeks after hiring a new employee. The Retirement System should receive the Form 2 before we receive the first payroll.
Applications for Retirement (Form 6) can be signed and submitted as early as (but no more than) 90 days in advance of the anticipated date of retirement. The closer to 90 days the Retirement System receives their paperwork, the more likely it is that the member will be paid on time.
Thank you for helping us to provide the best service possible to North Carolina's public employees, especially during this very busy time of year!
