Retirement Monitor Update
General Retirement Training Sessions for HR, Personnel and Payroll Staff to be Held Statewide
The Employer Education & Services Unit of the Retirement Systems Division this fall will be conducting four General Retirement Training Sessions for human resources, personnel and payroll staff in North Carolina’s government entities this fall. The sessions will cover enrollment procedures, beneficiary designations, payroll reporting, service purchases, refunds, transfers between systems, reciprocity between systems, law enforcement retirement, the general retirement process, and re-employment. The dates and locations for the sessions are:
- Davidson County Schools - September 14, 2005
Rutherfordton, NC
- Rutherford Government - November 1, 2005
- Town of White Lake - November 9, 2005 Nashville, NC
- Nash County Government - December 1, 2005
Each session will last from 9 am to 4 pm. You will receive confirmation and directions to the location approximately two weeks prior to the session for which you register.

2005-2006 Employer Contribution Rates for Employers in the Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System
The General Assembly passed the state budget bill on Aug. 11 and Gov. Easley signed the bill into law on Aug. 13. Attached, you will find an explanation of the new employer contribution rates effective July 1, 2005 for employers in the Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System.
Disability Benefit Increases
Employers paying short-term disability benefits should increase the base compensation upon which benefits are calculated effective July 1, 2005. Attached, you will find instructions for calculating this increase in short-term disability benefits under the Disability Income Plan.
