New Phone Line for HR and Benefits Professionals

The Retirement Systems Division, part of the NC Department of State Treasurer, has established a new phone line dedicated to human resources and benefits professionals in government offices across North Carolina. The new number, 919-807-3100, will be used by employers only and will not be distributed to Retirement Systems members. Calls received at this number will receive first priority, reducing the wait time for human resources and benefits professionals.

Refund Application (Form 5) revised for Easier Use

The Retirement Systems Division today released a new version of the Application for Retirement Contributions Refund, otherwise known as Form 5, to human resources and benefits professionals in public agencies across North Carolina. The Form 5 redesign is part of the Division’s ongoing efforts to make applications and forms easier for members to use and to understand. The new Form 5 is posted online at www.nctreasurer.com and is available by calling the Division’s Member Services Section.

Treasurer Moore Releases New Report on Fiscal Health of State Retirement System

North Carolina’s Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System is fully funded at 108 percent, according to a new report on the System’s fiscal health released in October. The new figure was part of an annual evaluation of the System’s funding ratio, or its assets divided by its liabilities. The evaluation was presented at the quarterly meeting of the Board of Trustees governing the State and Local Retirement Systems on October 23.

Welcome to the inaugural edition of Retirement Monitor, a monthly publication created to keep you up-to-date on developments affecting the State and Local Government Retirement Systems. During our five recent 401(k) workshops held across the State, I had the chance to speak with dozens of human resources and benefits professionals. There were two messages that I heard loud and clear: 1) Improve access to the Retirement Systems for human resources and benefits professionals and employees, and 2) Increase education and communication efforts to both groups.

New NC 401(K) Raleigh Office Opens

The NC 401(k) Plan opened a new Raleigh headquarters at 150 Fayetteville Street Mall on Oct. 1. The office, operated by Prudential Retirement, is located in Suite 1340 and is open to members from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday-Friday.
